What are athletic swimsuits and how are they different from regular swimsuits?
We need swimsuits that can keep up with us and all our adventures: surfing, cliff-diving, kid-wrangling. Title Nine swimsuits stay in place, won’t ride up or give us wedgies, and keep us covered all day long. Our swimsuits are built for all-day play with a comfortable, chafe-free fit, sun-shielding superpowers, and support where we want it most.
– Title Nine athletic swimming suits are made of durable, long-lasting, sun-shielding fabric. They’re designed to stay in place, not stretch out, and hold up for many years of adventures. Our fabrics dry quickly and won’t sag or bag out.
– We love to be sleek and fast! Title Nine swim suits fit perfectly for all kinds of bodies, and give us the support we need. Our suits have minimal seaming and a technical design so we can move easily in the water.
– Our swimming suits are built for all kinds of activity: from lap swimming to surfing, to long kayak days. They are designed specifically to stay in place, and not to chafe, bind, or pinch so we can focus on our adventures and not on the cut of our swimsuit. Mobility is key and our suits can keep up!
What features should I look for in athletic swimsuits?
We're a bunch of rebellious women building swimsuits for sports to keep up with women like us. So we build bottoms and onepieces that never bunch, never give you wedgies, and bikini tops that never end in embarrassing slip-ups. Besides, isn't that what all women's swimsuits should do? Here are some features to look for when you’re shopping for athletic swimsuits for women:
– Pick the level of support you need! Title Nine swimsuits fit all boob sizes: A to DDD. We make suits with and without underwire, in all kinds of strap configurations. Check out our
Bra Sized Swimsuit Tops for larger cup sizes.
– Adjustable straps on tops, tankinis, and one piece bathing suits let you decide how much support you (and the girls) need. All Title Nine swimsuits are built with straps that won’t dig, pinch, or chafe.
– Bikini bottoms with stay put features like internal drawstrings give you the confidence to go for it, and forget about your suit. Say bye-bye to slippy bikini bottoms. Or try our
swim shorts & board shorts for more coverage.
-- Built-in UPF sun protection means you can spend more time adventuring and less time reapplying. Fast-drying fabric goes from waves to apres-swim in a snap.
– Fabric is super important! We put our athletic suits to the test with our rockstar T9 women athletes, so you know your swimsuit is always up for the challenge. Title Nine suits are made of a lightweight, quick-dry, durable fabric that won’t stretch, sag, or bag. All our tops have removable, quick-dry, perforated cups so we never get soggy boobs. Plus, our bottoms have a sand resistant liner so no grit in our suits.
– Make sure you can move freely in your suit. We’ve designed all our swimsuits for a wide range of mobility so we can butterfly, crawl, and surf without our suits hangin’ us up.
– Don't forget the cover-up! Our quick-drying
swim and beach cover-ups with built-in UPF protection are engineered to brave the sun, sand, and water, and go great with all T9 swimsuits.

Are there specific styles of athletic swimsuits for different sports or activities?
At Title Nine, we build for women in motion: from kid wrangling to surf riding to beach exploring. All our suits are made of high quality, no-sag, sun-shielding fabric that keeps us covered for any kind of adventure.
1.
One Piece: One pieces do it all with their no-nonsense functionality. Lap swimming, surfing, cliff jumping. Title Nine suits are built to stay in place, all the damn day. More coverage means less sunscreen, and adjustable straps mean a customized, supportive fit for every body. We love just havin’ to remember to pack one item, and never have to worry if we’ll show up “half dressed.” Wahine Swim Shorts.swim shorts
2.
Bikinis: Surfers and paddle boarders love bikini swim tops for total freedom of movement in the water and a customized fit with pick-and-choose bottoms. Title Nine bikinis are made to fit, support, and cover all kinds of boobs with racerback, halter, and scoop styles (and adjustable straps!). Our sporty bikini swim tops stay put through a whole day of hittin’ the waves. Plus they come with underwire or without, so we’re always gettin’ the support we want.
3.
Tankinis: Tankinis give us the best of both worlds—the coverage of a one piece swimsuit and the flexibility of a bikini. The same great support and adjustable fit of a bikini top with a bit of extra sun-coverage. Title Nine tankini tops have the same hard hittin’ support of bikini tops, in a longer cut. Bonus: a tankini is a great sun-bustin’ combo with a pair of our
Wahine Swim Shorts.
4.
Rash Guards: We love rash guards for sun and abrasion protection; they’re a totally reliable layer between our skin and the elements. Surfing, SUPing, sand-castle buildin’, Title Nine rash guards give us UPF coverage so we can worry less about sunscreen, and more about the adventure at hand. Throw a rash guard over your bikini top and rip, ride, and duckdive all day without having to reapply.
How do I choose the right size of athletic swimsuit?
The best choice is the one you feel the most comfortable in! Title Nine swimsuits come in all kinds of styles: tankinis, bikinis, one-piece, swim skirts, and swim shorts. We’ve got a handy guide to help ya pick!
All options stretch a bit when wet (and no one wants to pay the price for a loose fit mid-dive) so it's key to get the right fit to keep your athletic suit top and bottoms in place. A slightly firm, almost compressive fit on dry land is a good start. If it's barely holding on when it's dry, it will easily let go when it's wet, so a snug fit is best. Every T9 style includes a swim-style specific sizing chart for all women, but if you're looking for a good base fit, check out the
T9 Swimsuit Fit Guide to get tips and pointers on how to get your sporty swimsuit fitting perfectly. Say bye-bye to boring swimsuits, and hello to sporty swimsuits that know what's up.
Can I wear athletic bathing suits for leisure swimming or only for sports and activities?
Totally! The best swimsuit is the one you feel most comfortable in! Most of us wear our athletic swimsuits for EVERYTHING from lap swimming to multi-day kayak adventures. Our designs stay in place, dry quickly, and give us the support we need for every kind of daily adventure.
How should I care for and maintain my athletic bathing suits?
We live in our suits all summer long! So taking good care of them helps to extend the lifespan of our Title Nine bathing suits.
– Rinse ‘em out promptly! Sunscreens, lotions, chlorine, perspiration and body oils can all do a number on the resilience of swim fabric elasticity, so prompt cleaning is important.
– Hand-wash with mild soap. The agitator of a washing machine can stretch out a suit. Use a mild liquid soap to keep colors bright (in a pinch, a dab of shampoo will do).
– Lay your suit flat to dry. Avoid the temptation to wring out every last drop of water or hang up a wet suit. Roll it up in a clean dry towel and lay it flat to dry (and out of direct sunlight).
– Rotate swimsuits. Fabrics with spandex have the ability to “bounce back” after drying. So bring more than one suit and give each one 24 hours to completely dry after washing.
– When you’re sunbathing, lay a towel down. Watch out for rough surfaces that can snag or pill a suit, like wooden benches and concrete. Once damaged, swim fabric cannot be repaired.
– Best to designate a hot tub suit. Hot water is bad for swim fabric, and so are the chemicals used in chlorine and bromine. If you hot tub a lot, use the same suit every time (and avoid using one of your favorites).
Can athletic swimsuits provide additional sun protection?
Title Nine suits are built to protect us from wedgies and the sun. All of our bathing suits have UPF protection so you don’t have to worry about sunburn. Athletic suits can also have more chest and rear coverage so there’s less skin to put sunscreen on!
